The annual inflation rate in the United States was recorded at 2.7% in December 2025, marking the lowest level since July and falling short of the predicted 3.1% as well as the 3% reported in September. In the energy sector, the index rose by 4.2%, with gasoline prices increasing by 0.9%, fuel oil escalating by 11.3%, and natural gas climbing by 9.1%. Food prices saw a 2.6% increase, while shelter costs rose by 3%. Other significant price hikes were observed in medical care (2.9%), household furnishings and operations (4.6%), recreation (1.8%), and used cars and trucks (3.6%). On the other end of the spectrum, apparel prices experienced a modest increase of 0.2%, and new vehicles rose by 0.6%. In terms of core inflation, the annual rate stood at 2.6%, the lowest since March 2021, compared to an anticipated 3%. The Bureau of Labor Statistics was unable to collect data for October 2025 due to a 43-day government shutdown, resulting in missing statistics for October and the absence of November's monthly data.
